Thriller - Rough Cut

Good:
•The simple, analogue look of the Jail Bird intro (0:00) is pleasing and fitting with the feel of the thriller. 
•The gradual transition from wide, open spaces to closed in, claustrophobic ones seems to have worked quite successfully. 
•So too has the sound design; 
-Using diegetic sound such as heavy breathing, keeping the audience uncomfortably close to the character.
-Non-diegetic sound for the atmospheric wind. I used in in a similar way that the sound of a train was used in a scene in the Godfather where Michael Corleone shoots two people in a restaurant.
-The music also worked well. Making it slow down, dip and rise according to the action. 
•The look of the film has also turned out quite pleasing. 
-The lighting turned out brilliantly, particularly in the scene at 1:09 using a puddle to reflect strong light onto our characters face. 
-The reasonably strong grade I applied to the film has also been quite successful in bringing out the cold feel yet the retaining the intensity of the sunlight. This is quite like the grading in the film Drive.
•There are a few good camera angles we used. One particularly strong shot is the tilt at 1:46. This was inspired by some old noir films such as the Third Man.

Needs improving:
•It is unclear whether the Jail Bird intro is the production company. Some people think that it is the name of the film and when the title 'Grip' appears they get confused. I will fix this by adding "presents" underneath Jail Bird.
•The font used for the title is not effective or suited to the style of film. This needs changing to a more appropriate font. The title also needs centering. 
•The loading bay INT shot (1:39) should be tighter. Unfortunately I cannot re shoot this and I refuse to use a digital zoom because it will reduce the quality of the image. 
•The shot at 0:56 linger a second too long, this needs a minor cut. 
•I shot the film with a widescreen, letter box effect in mind. Because of this, a lot of the shots seem overly loose and lack the claustrophobic effect intended. I need to apply the letter box to overcome this.

Final Location - Anglia Square UNFINISHED

For the location for our thriller we chose Anglia Square. The reason behind this choice was prominently down to the rough, grimy aesthetic and ambience to the area. We feel the look Anglia square holds really emphasises how lost and in danger Edwood is. There is also a logistical side to the decision. The other options we had, though they held some great aspects, would have been difficult to get cast and crew to. We would have had to use transport and allowed for time to get there and back home, resulting in less daylight to shoot in.
